Hazing Prevention at NewSchoolÌý

NewSchool of Architecture & Design is committed to fostering a safe and respectful community. In compliance with the Stop Campus Hazing Act of 2024 and California state law, we strictly prohibit all forms of hazing by students, student organizations, and campus groups.Ìý

Education & PreventionÌý

All students, faculty, and staff receive ongoing education about hazing.Training is included in student orientation, student organization leadership workshops, and staff development programming.Ìý


What Is Hazing?Ìý

Hazing includes any intentional, knowing, or reckless act, whether or not the person agrees to participate, that: ÌýIs connected to joining, affiliating with, or maintaining membership in a group, club, or organization.Causes or could cause physical injury, emotional distress, mental harm, intimidation, or personal degradationÌý

Examples of Hazing

  • Forced alcohol or drug useÌý
  • Physical abuse or coercive physical activityÌý
  • Public humiliation or verbal abuseÌý
  • Deprivation of sleep or foodÌý
  • Illegal, dangerous, or degrading activitiesÌý

Training topics include:

  • How to recognize hazingÌý
  • How to intervene safelyÌý
  • Your rights and responsibilitiesÌý
  • Reporting procedures

Reporting Hazing

We take all reports seriously. Anonymous reports are allowed. We will protect your identity to the greatest extent possible. Retaliation is prohibited.Ìý

Policies and Resources

Transparency ReportÌý

To maintain accountability, NewSchool publishes a Campus Hazing Transparency Report twice a year. This report includes:Ìý

  • – Student organizations found responsible for hazingÌý
  • – A general description of each incidentÌý
  • – Dates of investigation and resolutionÌý
  • – Disciplinary actions taken

 

Transparency reports will be retained and publicly accessible for at least five years from the publication date.

No hazing violations to report for 2025 with a report published 11/06/2025
